Introducing the Zoom22 Rickenbacker 4003 thumb rest - Nicknamed “The Slug” due to its slug-like shape.

Designed to be much more ergonomic than current designs currently on the market.

Made from quality maple wood for a natural feel, this thumb rest has been CNC machined for a perfect fit, then lovingly finished by hand, finally it is lightly oiled (linseed) with fine wire wool for a silky smooth finish.

Here is a short video of the product.

Fits all 4003 and 4003S basses up to 2015 with one piece guard, some later models also. It can also be used on any bass guitar, just screw it to the desired position

Carefully compare the measurements in the photos to yours to be sure that this will fit (all in mm). The main measurement to study is in the last photo, on later models this is much less at 5.5mm rather than 8.72 on this model.

Comes with two correct length stainless steel fixing screws. No modifications required.

I have been playing bass since the early 80’s, mainly with fenders, then a few years ago I acquired my dream bass - a 1990 Rickenbacker 4003.

They are a totally different beast to play compared to conventional bass guitars, and require a whole new technique when it comes to picking/ plucking.

The main problem I found was nowhere to rest your thumb when finger playing so I bought a plastic thumb rest.

I found it rather uncomfortable with the square-ish edges, also the shape didn’t seem quite right so I decided to make my own.

I played around with the design until it felt really comfortable and natural….. this is the end result.

I guess there are lots of bassists who get along with the Ricky just fine as it is, but if you are used to Fenders or similar and don’t want to change your playing style, then this is an essential bit of kit.
