This copy is in  GOOD condition considering its age. There is NO DUST JACKET.

This classis and highly sought-after volume is richly illustrated with thirty hand-colored and black and white plates, many hand-embellished with gilt and silver creating slightly different and unique pieces of art. Each of these gorgeous frame-worthy plates are in MINT condition, and are protected by their original tissue guards. In addition to the specially printed plates, numerous illustrations enhance the text. Plates include designs for The Sleeping Princess, Daphnis and Chloe, The Marvelous Night and Boris Godunov. 

This HARDBACK American edition was printed in Paris. The hand-colored photo-types were executed at D. Jacomet's Artistic Press; the text was composed and printed at the G. Land Press (Colophon). It features the original cream paper boards over cream cloth with color illustration on front cover. Cover is unmarred and clean, especially given the volume’s age; some minor bumping in one corner. Binding is tight; spine is intact and clean. Pages are undamaged and clean. Overall, this is a good copy of a beautiful book. 

Leon Samoilovitch Bakst (May 10, 1866 - December 28, 1924) was a Russian painter and scene/costume designer who revolutionized the genres in which he worked. Bakst came to prominence due to his involvement with the World of Art group, which was edited by Sergei Diaghilev. Diaghilev later became the founding director of the Ballet Russes; Bakst became the theater company’s artist, revolutionizing set and costume design. As an art instructor one of Bakst’s students was the legendary Marc Chagall.
