Here's a great old antique leather pack from the Woodstock, VT. Billings estate. Showing wear from honest use, overall the thick leather is still supple, however there are some areas of dryness and one of the shoulder straps has torn near where it is riveted to the bag. The big copper rivets and heavy duty stitching are intact and this pack has stood up well. I would estimate this pack dates from the early 20th century, likely over 100 yrs old.I can find no maker's mark but definitely a high quality piece that deserves some restoration. I was going to treat it to some Farnham's "Leather New" spray glycerine saddle soap but decided to leave as is for a prospective buyer to take care of.
Approx 16 " deep by 15" wide and 6 " thick with room for expansion and a generous flap to cover any over-stuffing.
Weighs 4 lb 12 oz empty,.....a manly pack for sure.
Starting price is what I paid at auction, this deserves another life.
A new classic like this would set you back at least $600 today. If it does not get used it is a handsome piece of vintage gear for the man-cave.
