HOW I ROLL HUNT PENNIES
1) Purchase bankrolls and keep you spare change.
2) Set up your "station" with your mat, 5-10x magnifier and roll coins.
3) Separate them by Shield, Memorials and Wheats, then separate by date, mint...
4) If you are keeping copper coins, separate from 1983 onward.
5) I re-roll all of the Shields and send them back to the bank. All others separated by decade.
6) Make sure you have proper lighting. Using my Coin Sort Mat and magnifier, I go through each decade looking for DATES and MINT MARKS matching the MAT info. Each one I find I set aside for further study.
7) Once going thru all rolls (I usually get $10 worth at a time. A thousand pennies can take some time to go through.) I send the remainder through a coin sorter which gives me the proper amount per roll without having me count! If you don't have a sorter, consider getting a few rolls at a time so you don't burn-out!
8) All possible errors, varieties, key dates are now viewed under a USB 10x computer scope (I got mine for under $25.00. It comes with software that also takes digital photos. Any coin I intend to keep is stapled in a 2" x 2", labeled and put into a binder.
9) All remaining coins are re-rolled and brought back to the bank with a tally sheet knowing what I gave to the teller. I usually get cash back. Asking for more coins but not the ones YOU JUST GAVE THEM requires you to tell a story they do not want to hear! Just go back later or feel free to go to another branch taking your cash and a new tally sheet requesting what coins you'd like.
Any questions, feel free! Happy Coin Hunting!
