Photograph Notes: Gwastedyn Hill, south of Rhayader, has two tops of similar height separated by a shallow, grassy depression; the view here is from the eastern to the west top. The west top is the more interesting of the summits having a tall, beehive shaped cairn of mortared stonework which was constructed for the Silver Jubilee of QEII and a 'beacon basket' held aloft by a massive wooden support. There's also a fair amount of outcropping rock at the west top.
