    Surface Preparation and Installation Guidelines for Weather Shields


    • Ensure the surface is thoroughly cleaned to remove all visible contaminants, including but not limited to car wax, ceramic coatings, and any other paint protection treatments, prior to installation. DO NOT install weather shields during rain or in wet conditions. This step is critical to ensure proper adhesion of the weather shields. Failure to comply may result in inadequate bonding of the 3M adhesive tape to the vehicle’s surface. IMPORTANT: Once exposed to water, car wax, ceramic coating, or any paint treatment material, the 3M tape will lose its stickiness entirely.

    (Important Additional Note: For customers who have purchased a brand-new vehicle or a pre-owned vehicle from a dealership, please be aware that the vehicle may have been treated with wax or ceramic coating prior to delivery. It is essential to thoroughly remove any such paint protection treatments, as outlined above, before installing the weather shields. This recommendation is based on over 15 years of practical experience servicing our local on-site customers. Proper surface preparation is critical to ensure optimal adhesion and long-term performance of the weather shields.).

    • Removing the Protective Liner:

      Use a plastic trim tool, fingernail, or similar non-abrasive tool to carefully peel back the red protective liner from the 3M adhesive tape. Take care not to touch the exposed adhesive surface to maintain maximum bonding strength.

    • Activating the Adhesive for Optimal Bonding:

      For optimal long-term adhesion, use a heat gun or a high-powered hair dryer to gently heat the 3M adhesive surface after removing the red protective liner. Ensure the tape does not come into contact with any contaminants during this process, as this will compromise the adhesive strength. Applying heat activates the adhesive, enhancing its bonding performance and ensuring a more secure and durable installation.

    • Final Installation Step – Applying Pressure:

      After positioning the weather shields onto the vehicle, apply firm and even pressure along the length of the 3M adhesive tape for at least 30 seconds. This step is essential to ensure full contact between the adhesive and the door frame, facilitating a strong and lasting bond.

     

    Please ensure that all of the above steps are followed precisely. Adhering to these instructions is critical to prevent the weather shields from detaching during vehicle operation.
