Planting Tips
For best results, soak seeds in warm water for 24–48 hours before planting. Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost, or sow outdoors in mid spring after the soil has warmed.

Sow seeds about 1/4–1/2 inch deep in light, well-draining soil. Germination can be slow, so keep soil warm and moist, and be patient.

Transplant seedlings outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Choose a permanent planting location because asparagus can stay productive for many years once established.

Harvesting Notes
Do not harvest heavily during the first year. In the second year, harvest lightly if plants are strong. By the third year, established plants can produce a more regular harvest.

Harvest young spears when they reach about 7–9 inches tall and are about pencil thickness. After harvest season, allow the plants to grow fern-like foliage so the roots can store energy for next year’s crop.

Important Note
Germination and growth results may vary depending on temperature, moisture, soil, sunlight, and growing conditions. Asparagus is a long-term crop and may take 2–3 years from seed before producing a strong harvest.
