Queensland legislation requires interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms compliant with AS3786:2014 in all bedrooms, hallways and on every level of a dwelling by 1 January 2027 (or earlier if selling or leasing).
All required alarms must be interconnected so that when one activates, they all sound together.
If your property currently has existing 240V hardwired alarms, these must be replaced with new compliant interconnected 240V alarms installed by a licensed electrician.
Additional alarms may be battery-powered; however, all required alarms must interconnect as one system. Compliance requirements vary by property — always confirm based on your specific dwelling layout.

The certificate dates refer to the authorised manufacturing period, not the expiry date of the alarms themselves. Once manufactured within an authorised certification period, the alarms remain compliant for their full 10-year service life.
