Struck by the US mint as part of a 3-coin commemorative set to honor the 100th birthday of the Statue of Liberty in 1986, and to raise funds for the restoration and maintenance of this landmark and of Ellis Island.  The coin weighs 11.340 g, measures 1.205 inches in diameter, and is composed of copper (92%) clad in nickel (8%) to give it its beautiful silvery shine.  Its obverse features the New York city landscape in the early 20th century, with the Statue overlooking an inbound ocean liner, the words "Liberty", "In God We Trust", and the date "1986".  The reverse depictsa family of immigrants on Ellis Island, together with the words "United States of America A Nation of Immigrants", "e pluribus unum", and "Half Dollar".  The coin is legal tender in the United States. It comes in its original unopened capsule.
