The motor dome filter on a TriStar canister vacuum is the round foam or felt filter that sits over the motor housing (motor dome) inside the canister. Its purpose is to:
  • Protect the motor from fine dust that gets past the primary filtration.
  • Help keep the motor cleaner and extend its life.
  • Reduce dust recirculation inside the canister.

To locate it:

  1. Unplug the vacuum.
  2. Remove the dirt container or bag, depending on your TriStar model.
  3. Look toward the center/rear of the canister where the motor housing forms a raised "dome."
  4. The motor dome filter is fitted over or around that dome, usually held in place by a retainer or friction fit.
It is approximately 5¾ inches in diameter and fits the MG1, MG2, A101, and EXL models.
