This is a signed letter dated 1968 from then retired Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball club president Bill Benswanger to Grace Meine....regarding 1930's player Heine Meine who was my grandfather. This is a family heirloom from my fathers "baseball drawer" with relics of my grandfather Heine Meine who was a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1929 - 1934. The letter is in consolation to his death in 68.
In the 1930 - 31 season he was one of the best pitchers in the National League and tied with Cardinals pitcher Bill Hallahan for the NL-lead in victories (19). He also led the senior circuit with 35
starts and 284 innings, and ranked third in complete games (22) and
fourth in ERA (2.98).
Dad has decided to let a few items go ....so check my other listings for more.
