Plastic clips hold the fish securely throughout the day and they are easy to open and close by holding the fish in one hand while clipping the fish with the other hand.  The clips open by squeezing the sides together and are always locked closed.

These really stay on as long as you clip them in the correct spot on the lower part of the mouth just to the right of the center line.  

There's a thin membrane there where the clip goes and when you let go you'll see the other part fold over the clip.
