This auction is for the Premium KK4HXJ rE-Cap kit for Yaesu FT901DM/FT902DM Radios I offer these kits in both Premium and Value Versions I offer these kits to simplify the process of obtaining the necessary components to do a DIY capacitor replacement Premium Kits include: High Quality Panasonic FC Series Capacitors (2.2-100uF values are 50v 220-2200uF values are 25v) 1uF Nichicon Brand PS Series All Axial Capacitors and 250+ Volt Capacitors are SC Brand - Premium Taiwanese Mfd The Yaesu FT901DM/FT902DM Radios are excellent performers and are worthy candidates for a Do It Yourself capacitor upgrade. They are uncluttered, easy to work on, well labeled, and with the service manual (readily available online free of charge), well documented. These radios were built from 1977-1982 or so, so every example is over 35 years old. If you are looking at this auction, you likely realize that Electrolytic capacitors have a finite life, most Consumer Grade electrolytics including modern units have engineered lives of 1000-5000 hours at which point they begin to fail, which includes changing values, increased electrical leakage, increased ESR or outright failure such as opening up or shorts, many times these failures are cummulative and result in the gradual loss of performance. This upgrade will improve the function and reliability of these fine radios and extend their useful Life. Faulty capacitors are the cause of a significant amount of problems with electronic equipment and I have repaired hundreds of units in which the only fault was one or 2 defective Electrolytic capacitors. Replacing all out of spec capacitors is recommended and often restores the equipment to like new performance. Failure to replace them can result in failure/stress to other components such as transformers, transistors and diodes, many of which are hard to replace due to lack of suitable components. Recapping is a good investment and an immensely satisfying project. Work slow, have fun and prepare to be impressed with your work. I only sell capacitor replacement sets, repair kits, accessories and information for Equipment That I Own and/or Service, and have done the replacements myself. This includes Vintage Realistic DX Receivers & CB Radios, Kenwood/Icom/Yaesu HF Tranceivers/Receivers, Micronta VOM's & Various VTVM's. I have been repairing and racapping this equipment for about 20 years and often had difficulty finding the necessary values of capacitors. I recapped my Yaesu FT901DM radio about 6 years ago and had much difficulty finding the necessary values of caps at that time, I have since gathered and located all necessary values including the hard to find axials. You will see in the photos provided my Workbench and my FT901DM Radio |
The FT901DM and 902DM are very similar and have almost identical capacitor compliments, there are 97 common capacitors which are not only of the same value but have the same Part numbers. The common part numbers are listed below and a separate section is provided for each radio with the unique part numbers. There are several caps which are not identified by a number in the parts lists and they are marked as C? in the following listings - this kit also supplies axial lead capacitors in both applications where axials were originally supplied (i.e. they have not been replaced with cheaper/more readily available radial capacitors)
The kit includes enough capacitors to recap either radio including the optional AM/FM Board
This kit does not include the 100uF/500V (C1501/C1502) HV Filter Caps - but I now offer these in a separate auction Where I offer 150uF/500V upgraded Units - however, there are a number of difficulties with installing Filter Capacitors in this radio, please read the Red print in that auction before proceeding!
