The Derby Cover Bolts are highly visible components of your bike.
If your Derby Cover Bolts are stripped out, rusted or are the ugly looking Torx
head style, it is time to spend a few bucks for a new set.

New chrome plated or black oxide bolts really do look nice at
least for a while. However, those surfaces are easy to crack or chip their thin
coating and then moisture has access to the underlying common steel. Soon after
that rust appears on the “face” of your engine. If this is where you are, it is
time to buy a set of our stainless steel Derby Covers Bolts.

Our Harley Derby Cover Bolts bolt kits are better in
several ways:
BETTER BOLTS: The OEM derby bolts were unattractive Torx head, black oxide coated,
common steel fasteners. Our bolts are good looking Allen Socket Button Head stainless
steel pieces. Torx head bolts tend to “strip out” easily because of their
shallow sockets and use of wrong size or worn out bits. Socket Button Heads do
not normally have as many problems. Black oxide coated common steel will
deteriorate in a few years and then rust. Stainless steel will end rust
concerns forever.
PROTECTION WITH WASHERS: Many Derby Cover Bolts are installed with no washers as
it was cheaper that way. However, tightening bolts down on to derby covers, tends
to rough up mating surfaces. We feel that it is better to let washers take the
abuse during tightening. Our stainless steel flat washers have small outside
diameters that tuck neatly under the bolt heads. If bike tends to loosen bolts
because of vibration, we have included a set of internal star lock washers to
help solve this problem.
BETTER STEEL: Brand new chrome plated or black oxide bolts may look great on
day one, but it does not take long for their appearance to change. That phase
is followed by flaking and then rust. Why not use Stainless Steel Bolts in the
beginning and avoid disappointment down the line. All pieces in our Derby Cover
Bolt kits are made of grade 18-8 Stainless Steel.
