Ludwig Van Beethoven (1770 - 1827)
German classical and romantic composer. Beethoven was known as one of the most gifted pianists and violinists of all time. His music expresses a humanistic sense derived from an era of revolution. Influenced heavily by Haydn and Mozart, his sound became all its own with the addition of his intense energy. This style was best announced in his Third Symphony, which marks the beginning of the Romantic era. In spite of becoming deaf later in life, he is famous for shaping the scope of instrumental music and raising it to its highest plane of art.

Frederic Chopin
Born February 22, 1810, near Warsaw. Died October 17, 1849, in Paris. The great early 19th century poet of the piano, Chopin wrote hundreds of beguiling, witty, caressing, fervent and richly melodic waltzes, nocturnes, etudes, polonaises and mazurkas which remain unequalled in their popular appeal. He composed almost exclusively for the piano and was one of the first to introduce Slavic musical elements into Classical forms.
(Roy Hemming, From Rock to Bach: A Musical Odyssey, 1974)

NOTE: When CD's were first introduced, the manufacturers packaged them in the now-standard plastic jewel cases, but then put that CD and jewel case in a large, sealed cardboard box which everyone called the "Long Box." (Approximately 6" X 12") This was so the retailer could display the CD's, which seemed so little at the time, in the same display racks as the vinyl LP Records. Plus, the long box added a little security as it was harder to steal a large object than a small one. As the LP Records disappeared from stores, so did the CD long boxes. This new, hard to find CD is still sealed in the original long box!
