Lindsay, Vachel. The Golden Whales of California and Other Rhymes in the American Language. New York: The MacMillan Company, 1920. 8vo, original pictorial boards. xx, 181 pp.

First edition, with a spirited inscription by the author to the poet Oliver Jenkins on the flyleaf: “To Oliver Jenkins My good wishes to my fellow poet and fellow adventurer on the highway of the sky. Yours Nicholas Vachel Lindsay April 17, 1922 Boston.” A most appealing copy of this oft-overlooked volume by a poet known for chanting or singing his verses. Though academic scholarship has not paid much attention to him, Lindsay's poems would go on to have a profound effect on generations of poets, after he escaped this vale of tears by quaffing a bottle of lysol!

CONDITION: Very good, light tanning to the spine.
