Lick It Up marked a historic turning point as KISS appeared publicly without their trademark makeup for the first time. Fueled by a heavier, guitar-driven sound and the addition of lead guitarist Vinnie Vincent, the album revitalized the band's career and helped launch them into the MTV generation.
