A unique & whimsical newly handmade walnut shell crib with vintage baby. Every year I make a few of these from the shells of the walnuts I cracked & ate the previous Christmas.

All are unique based on the size & shape of the shells (2025 walnuts were particularly mini, approx 3.5cm). I individually hand cut either wooden rockers or legs to fit & paint to match the shells. I coat the whole crib with shellac varnish for gloss, strength & durability. The interiors are slightly padded & covered with with carefully selected micro print fabrics. I hand micro knit tiny coordinating blankets. The insides are unique depending on which fabrics & yarns I have available. Finally I introduce a  tiny baby which I hand paint with nappy, hair & features. This year, because the shells were so small, I have used preowned vintage babies, including some of the teeny tiny, lying ones, marketed as "The Smallest Baby in the World" back in the 50's & 60's , approx 2cm and sitting babies approx 3cm.
