Yes, the Sierra Marine 18-55505 appears to be interchangeable with Mercury starter 8M0074530, although Sierra's published cross references typically list the newer Mercury replacement numbers rather than 8M0074530 directly.

Here's the chain:

• Sierra 18-55505 replaces Mercury part numbers 8M0061073, 8M0096343, 8M0137789, 8M0142679, 8M0187292, among others. [wholesalemarine.com], [defender.com]
• Multiple Mercury starter listings for 8M0074530 state that it is interchangeable with or superseded by 8M0096343, 8M0137789, 8M0142679, 8M0187292, and 8M0061073. [amazon.com], [amazon.com]

Because both part numbers cross-reference to the same group of Mercury starters, they are generally considered compatible replacements for the same family of Mercury V6/V8 175-300 HP four-stroke outboards. [wholesalemarine.com], [amazon.com]

One caution: Mercury occasionally changes starter designs by serial number. Before ordering, verify your engine's model and serial number against the fitment chart. [defender.com], [crowleymarine.com]

Please see the photos for the best description and sizes.  In general, we do inspect our sale items and they all must pass inspection before we list them.  Of course, it's possible for unnoticed details to fall through the cracks but for the most part we try to be really careful about this.

 *Please check out my other listings in my store.  I will, of course, combine shipping on multiple purchases if practical to do so.  Don't forget, the best pricing/discount is when you buy 4 or more of the same fixed price items at a time.*

**All items I sell are sold as is, so please be sure to view the photos carefully and be sure to message me with any questions you might have before you make your purchases.  As a rule, I do not accept returns, but in cases where I do accept returns, the buyer will pay the return postage.  Please don't get me wrong, I strive to sell only top quality items and also strive for complete satisfaction from my buyers.**

***Payment is expected to be made at time of purchase.  If you are unable to make a payment within 2 days of purchase, please let me know when I can expect to receive your payment.  I always send out an invoice if payment is not received at the time of purchase and I do understand that some buyers prefer for me to calculate the shipping before payment is made.  Thank you.  :) ***

****My standard shipping offer is economy shipping or flat rate boxes, if the cost is reasonable or comparable to the economy shipping rate.  I have had good experience with timely shipping with these, but please allow 2-9 business days (in most cases) after I ship your order before it arrives.****

~~~ Don't forget to leave feedback for me if you want me to do the same for you.  :) ~~~
