Dark Lover is the first novel in J.R. Ward's hugely popular Black Dagger Brotherhood series, a paranormal romance set in the fictional city of Caldwell, New York. It introduces readers to Wrath, the last purebred vampire on earth and reluctant leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood — an elite band of warrior vampires who protect their race from the Lessening Society, a deadly army of soulless slayers.

When Wrath is asked by a dying friend to guide his half-human daughter, Beth Randall, through her dangerous vampire transition, he expects nothing more than a mission. What he doesn't expect is the fierce, undeniable bond that forms between them — a connection that challenges everything he believes about himself and his destiny.
