A beautiful live-taken Chicoreus riverai with its operculum, personally collected by me from the Dry Tortugas aboard the F/V AVA PILAR.

This is a particularly attractive specimen with strong sculpture, long developed varices and contrasting darker brown coloration along many of the spine tips. Chicoreus riverai was described by Petuch & Berschauer in 2026 and was named after me, Randy Rivera, in recognition of my collecting and discoveries in the Dry Tortugas region.

This specimen is also a topotype, collected from the same geographic area from which the species was originally described.
