The Order of Founders and Patriots of America founded in 1896 membership badge named to Horace Morrison Carelton No 21 on the back of the brooch. Made by Bailey Banks and Biddle who patented this medal in 1897. Being an early version of this medal I believe it to be gold and not gold plated silver as are the more modern versions. Unfortunately since this medal was made before the 1906 law which required gold items to be marked as such, this medal is not marked and we can only guess. The scans make this medal look plated but it does not look that way in real life. Next take a look at the suspension ring and how it is mounted on a pedestal and rotates. Then look at the pin with a shorter side pin both indicate an older original version. Total weight including the ribbon is 30.4 grams. The ribbon is a bit worn but still presentable. The enamels are undamaged.

On the obverse are two military portraits portraying an armored soldier from the 1600's and a colonial era soldier wearing a tri-cornered hat. Both are in a gold wreath on a red enamel cross with a radiant background. The back has the United States seal on blue enamel rays in turn on a golden ray background.
