1910 Poole's Myriorama, Public Rooms, Camborne, Cornwall

An original and highly attractive surviving Edwardian entertainment bill for J. Wolseley Poole's Great 1910-11 Myriorama, printed for an engagement at the Public Rooms, Camborne, commencing Monday, 22 August 1910.

The date can be securely identified from the printed weekday and date combination, with 22 August falling on a Monday in 1910. The bill represents a fascinating period of transition between Victorian music hall and modern cinema, combining a full programme of variety entertainment with projected films via "The Bioscope" and Poole's Perfect Pictures.

The programme includes a wide range of professional touring acts:

  • Wun-Hi-Lung, billed as "The World-Renowned Wizard of the Orient and Emperor of Illusionists"
  • The Wartanas, a troupe of modern lady jugglers
  • Fredrica's Terriers, featuring ten trained dogs and a cake-walking pony
  • The Victas, acrobatic barrel jumpers
  • Bros. Graham, comedy acrobats and balancers
  • Johnny O'Rourke
  • Herbert G. Berry
  • Eileen & May with Little Francisca

Of particular interest is the explicit advertising of "The Bioscope", with an entire change of pictures for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, making this an appealing item for collectors of early cinema, silent film, music hall, variety theatre and Cornish local history.

Poole's Myriorama was among the better-known travelling entertainments of the Edwardian period, bringing a mixture of films, illusionists, comedians, acrobats, musicians and novelty acts to towns throughout Britain. Today the company occupies an important place in the history of travelling cinema and popular entertainment.

Significant age-related wear, folds, tears and losses. A large detached triangular fragment remains present and accompanies the poster; this section includes part of the crucial "J. Wolseley Poole" credit and part of the printed title. Despite condition issues, the majority of the text remains legible and the poster displays well for such a fragile survivor of temporary local advertising.

A scarce surviving Edwardian entertainment bill combining early cinema and variety theatre, issued for a specific Camborne engagement in August 1910.
