Offered for sale is a sharp vintage 1960s International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers Union Logo Dial 17J "Waterproof" Manual Wind watch. This is one of a number of vintage watches that were part of a retired watch technicians inventory of watches and watch parts, acquired a number of years ago, that I have begun listing here on eBay.

The case back of this watch is marked 'Waterproof', which helps date the watch to the early-mid 1960s, as by the late 1960s, the watch industry had pretty much universally moved to using "Water Resistant" nomenclature (due to emerging law suits around the "WaterPROOF" terminology.)

Mechanically, this watch is in running condition - the 17J manual wind movement winds easily (it started running within just a few winds of the crown) and once running, runs steadily; the date turns over correctly at midnight. The crown correctly sets the hands and advances the date, as designed.  (While I can't make out a maker's mark on the movement, based on the watch's production time frame and reasonably high production quality, it's most likely of either West German or Japanese origin.)  That said, while the watch runs steadily once wound, time keeping has not been measured; however, as with all vintage watches with an indeterminate service history (and this one is about 60 years old now), it should be assumed that a servicing will need to be administered in order for the watch to keep accurate time.

Cosmetically, the 34.5 mm diameter chrome plated case shows signs of normal wear evidenced in the form of small scratches/marks and light edgewear in spots to the chrome plating, but it otherwise retains well-defined lines, corners and edges. The stainless steel case back is in similar condition as is the case and displays clear factory stamping along with clean factory circular graining (please review the photos, as they form the best description of the physical condition of this watch.)  The original silver dial features embossed silver markers, a date window at 3 o'clock, and a red & blue IAMAW logo just below the 12 o'clock marker, and is generally in nice overall condition; the original silver hand set, featuring lume in the hour and minute hands that has tanned nicely over time, as well as a red arrow tipped second hand, is also clean, as is date wheel. The crystal is generally clean and clear, but shows some signs of wear around the edges. The original chrome plated crown is in similar condition to the case, with light wear showing to the plated finish.

The watch is mounted on an NOS black snake grain leather band, and will fit a wrist of up to approximately 7 1/3" in size in this configuration.

Please review all of the photographs, as they comprise the most important part of the item description.  If you have any questions about the item, please ask before bidding; there are no returns on this lot (unless it's not as described in some way.)

All international sales will ship via eBay's Global Shipping Program, no exceptions.

We will combine shipping where possible - please request an invoice or send a note once your bidding for the day is complete.
