Mechanically, this watch is in running condition - the Soviet 17J Cal. 2414A movement winds readily, and once running, runs steadily; the date turns over correctly at midnight. The screw down crown correctly sets the hands, advances the date, and screws/unscrews easily, as designed. That said, while the watch runs steadily once wound, time keeping has not been measured; however, as with all vintage watches with an indeterminate service history (and this one is about 40 years old now), it should be assumed that a servicing will need to be administered in order for the watch to keep accurate time.
Cosmetically, the 38.6 mm diameter stainless steel case shows signs of light normal wear in the form of small scratches/marks, but it otherwise retains well-defined lines, corners and edges. The stainless steel case back is in similar condition as the case, with minimal scratching, and displays clear factory stamping along with factory circular graining. The bi-directional friction-fit bezel is also in very nice condition, with no loss of the red and black paint fill, no significant dings or gouges present, and a fit that allows smooth turning of the bezel only when intentional pressure is applied to turning it. (please review the photos, as they form the best description of the physical condition of this watch.) The original gradated green dial features the classic paratrooper and red star elements that define this model, and lume dots at the hour markers that have toned to a dark tan color over time; while the dial hasn't developed any significant patina, it has developed some interesting and cool crazing to the top half of the dial where the darkest green color has been used. The hand set is also clean, featuring a red second hand and lume that has darkened over time to match the lume dots on the dial, as is date wheel. The crystal is generally clean and clear, without any cracks or fissures, but shows some signs of wear around the edges (I did not attempt to polish the crystal.) The original screw down crown is in similar clean condition as the case.
The watch is mounted on an NOS vintage black rubber band, and will fit a wrist of up to approximately 7 3/4" in size in this configuration.
