4 iittala Kastelhelmi 140mm Clear Glass Plates 1970's A/F

These are 4 clear glass Kastehelmi plates, a legendary piece of Finnish glassware produced by Iittala.

About the Design

The Designer: It was originally created in 1964 by the iconic Finnish designer Oiva Toikka for Nuutajärvi, and was later re-introduced by Iittala.

The Meaning: Kastehelmi translates to "dewdrop" in Finnish. The design features distinct, concentric rings of raised glass bubbles that mimic droplets glistening on grass under the morning sun.

A Clever Solution: Toikka actually invented this beautiful texture out of necessity—he wanted to find an artistic way to hide the joint marks and seams left behind on the surface during the pressed glass manufacturing process.

These 140mm diameter plates make a beautiful bread and butter plate, dessert dish, or coaster.

They are in very good condition, one has some slight roughness on one edge but it is almost imperceptible, please see pictures.
