(If you love the historical stuff like I do:)   Loula Long Combs Exhibit Featured at Kansas City Museum During American Royal.  Concurrent with the American Royal and through January, 1979, the Kansas City Museum will feature an exhibition illustrating the show ring career of Loula Long Combs (1881-1971).

Her achievements earned Mrs. Combs a listing in the Madison Square Garden Hall of Fame and the only woman and one of two persons cited for equine sports.

Her showring debut began at a country show near Kansas City in 1896.  The youngest entry in a ladies equitation class, Loula Long left the ring with the blue, the first of hundreds over 60 years in hard competition in class A-rated horse shows throughout the United States and Canada.  She became the most celebrated show ring personality of her day and an internationally acclaimed exhibitor of the Hackney Breed.

Always a trail blazer, Loula Long created a sensation at the famed Olympia in London when she entered and won the traditionally all-male roadster class in 1910.  Five years later she made horse show history again when she was the first woman to take a blue ribbon in the run-about class at the National Horse Show in New York.
