This unsigned Oil on board painting is attributed to British/Italian artist Francis Moltino (1818 - 1874)

A larger similar oil painting by the same artist was sold in Australia in 2020.

 
Condition. Oil on board, 30cm by 23cm. There are 2 old 'hanging' holes on the left hand side of the painting (see photo) and a bit of rubbing on the left hand side of the Custom House. (see photo)

Apart from these 2 flaws the painting is in fabulous condition for it's age

Frame. Housed in a beautiful maple frame, 37.5cm by 30.5cm and in good condition.

BIOGRAPHY

Francis Moltino (1818-1874) was an Italian painter, resident in London, who specialised in landscapes and coastal scenes. His work is similar to that of Turner in style, but with an air of southern Europe. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1848 and 1855. He was resident in Covent Garden and then Pimlico in London from the mid 1840s. In later life he returned to Italy and painted in Venice, where he might originally have come from.
