Art Deco pochoir (hand-stencil aquarelle) plate of Cunégonde in a yellow polka-dot and rose gown on a wooded path. From Voltaire’s Candide (the Collection Lotus volume also gathers Zadig and Jeannot et Colin) in the “Collection Lotus” (Éditions Nilsson, Paris, c.1928), with 1920s stencil-and-watercolour illustrations by Robert Polack. Cunégonde is the beloved whose loss sends Voltaire’s hero on his disastrous tour of “the best of all possible worlds.”
