Original antique color lithographed large-format map of Utah, printed more than 124 years ago.

• The image measures a generous 46.2 x 33.1 cm [18½ in. x 11 in.], and the map labels 27 counites, two fewer than today. (Duchesne and Daggett counties were created after this map was printed.



• It locates dozens of small settlements, some of which are ghost towns today, such as Frisco in Beaver County and Thistle in Utah County. Among the smaller settlements that still exist today are Ibapah in far western Toole County and Scofield, a former coal-mining town in Carbon County.



• Vast reaches of the lands shown on this map were home to sovereign tribal nations, including the Ute, Navajo, Goshute, Shoshone, and Paiute.



• Among the specific named places and the map are the re the Rio Grande & Western Railroad, Parowan, Moab, Manti, Nephi, the Utah & Pacific Railroad, Heber, Brigham, Great Salt Lake, Saltair Junction, Castledale, Cedar City, Heber, Coalville, Logan, Panguitch, Ogden, and Cataract Canyon, in today's Canyonlands National Park.



• Topography is delineated with hachure lines, and longitude is measured from Greenwich and Washington.
