Backstory on advertising dolls in general: Advertising
dolls have been a marketing strategy for companies since at least the late
1800s. Initially, consumers could order
printed fabric to sew and stuff themselves.
Later, the dolls themselves were obtained by providing proof of purchase
of a product, stamps or a few cents or dollars.
Companies manufacturing food products saw the most success in promoting
their brand with these dolls.
