Japan Airlines Vintage Poster BOEING 747 1970 Expo

Produced in 1969 and 1970, this is an introductory ‘concept’ advertising poster that JAL (Japan Airlines) produced for the first time when it was introducing the maiden voyage of the classic Boeing 747.   Its maiden voyage was to be in time for the Spring 1970 EXPO/World’s Fair hosted in Japan for the first time.

This is a LARGE double-sided poster.  One side is beautiful JAL Garden Hostess, dressed in a beautiful teal floral kimono.   The flip side is a full JAL 747-100 with 3 concept design photos of the interior cabin.

Both the cabin and the flight attendants are very traditionally Japanese-styled.  It is very beautiful. The interior design of the 747 was named ‘JAL Garden Jet’.  Flight attendants were called ‘JAL Garden Hostesses’.  There was to be at least one hostess on every 747 flight dressed in the traditional kimono.

Condition: This is a large poster that is over 57 years old.  On the hostess side, there are marks from adhesive masking tape from being hung on a wall.  The 747 side is really in very very good condition.  On one spot, you can slightly see the adhesive from the other side.  There are wear marks along all the folds.  Some yellowing and some creases.  A few tiny holes where all the folds come together.   A few tiny tears at some of the fold edges.  Please please examine all the photos closely.

Although this has condition issues, it is EXTREMELY rare and a wonderful piece of JAL and 747 memorabilia.
