Antique Lionel 263E Steam Engine 2-4-2 (Non-Smoke) Cast Iron, with Tender: The Lionel 263E is an antique O gauge prewar tinplate steam locomotive with a 2-4-2 wheel arrangement and tender cataloged by the Lionel Corporation between 1936 and 1939. This set is from the Prewar "Golden Age" of tinplate trains, right before die-cast and scaled models took over. It features a sheet-metal tinplate boiler superstructure, a robust die-cast zinc/metal frame, and bright nickel or chrome-plated trim (domes, piping, and handrails). The lighting includes an operating headlight and a red glowing bulb under the cab to simulate an open firebox. The tender typically paired with a Vanderbilt-style oil tender. This original prewar version does not feature smoke units (which were a postwar invention). This antique steam locomotive and tender are in very good to excellent condition for their 90 years plus history. They have the patina and finish that you would expect of a well used set.  It was tested and runs well. There are not any boxes with this steam locomotive and tender. Please see pictures for details. Collectors value the antique cast iron locomotive and tender for their sturdy metal construction and working mechanical parts.
