Charming pair of original early 1930s hand-worked silhouette needlework pictures, including a woman carrying a bouquet of flowers and a horse-drawn carriage scene. Executed in black thread on natural open-weave textile and housed in vintage wood frames.

Especially interesting for their surviving handwritten provenance. The reverse of one piece bears a handwritten date of May 11, 1931. The second has an old handwritten notation identifying the work as a sampler made in the early 1930s and associated with Portland, Maine. Please refer to photographs for the complete inscriptions.

Both pieces have an appealing Colonial Revival / American folk-art character typical of the silhouette revival of the 1920s–30s. Period frames and backing remain in place.

Condition is consistent with age, including wear to the frames, age toning and deterioration to the old paper backing. Needlework itself presents well. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
