RARE VINTAGE GENTS & CO 2046 BAKELITE INTERCOMMUNICATION INTERPHONE -
20-WAY ROTARY SELECTOR - ORIGINAL & UNMODIFIED.
On offer is a superb and increasingly scarce Gents
& Co. Model 2046 Parsons‑Sloper intercommunication
telephone featuring a 20-position rotary selector mechanism and original
internal electrical components in excellent original condition, introduced in
the mid-1930’s, most likely around 1935 - 1937.
This is one of the classic Parsons‑Sloper “secret” intercommunication telephones, directly based on the 1903 Sloper & Parsons patent designed for private multi‑station intercommunication before PBX systems became common and used in Government offices, hotels, industrial plants, warehouses and large commercial buildings.
It is clearly marked GENTS to the front of the original black Bakelite case and is presented in excellent original vintage cosmetic condition, particularly considering its age. The Bakelite body retains a deep, even black gloss with no cracks and only minor signs of age and light surface wear associated with a genuine vintage item. The selector dial is mounted on the front of the case with a ringing button at the bottom right-hand side.
The telephone is completely original
and unmodified with the original handset, rotary selector, wiring, coils,
contacts, switchgear and internal components all present. The internal
mechanism is particularly impressive and has not been modernised or converted. The
heavy‑duty industrial build quality typical of Gents equipment is
very evident.
The rotary selector is
numbered through 20 positions and operates through a substantial multi-contact
switching mechanism with the selector turning smoothly and indexing correctly.
