A number of the pieces are partially to strongly translucent when held against a bright light, producing amber, golden-orange, red, and smoky tones. Backlit photographs are included where applicable to demonstrate this light transmission. These illuminated views were made using a strong light source; the stones appear darker under ordinary room lighting.
These pieces came from the Ed Hanley Collection. Mr. Hanley purchased the collection in Morocco. No original identification or data card accompanies this particular group.
Prior collection information described the material as Neolithic Saharan blades, reportedly dating approximately 10,000–4,500 BC.
