A VERY NICE 1st WATERMARK 'MINT LIGHTLY HINGED' 2½d KANGAROO (FULL ORIGINAL GUM) IN “LIGHT BLUISH INDIGO”: NICE PERFORATIONS & CENTERING ACSC CV$150 - ALSO SOME CLEAR “OFFSET” COLOUR COMING THROUGH THE BACK - VERY PRETTY SHADE
The 1st Watermark 2½d Indigo Kangaroo was printed by J.B. COOKE from two Plates (an UPPER Plate - Plate 1 and a LOWER Plate - Plate 2). The Plates comprised a total of 120 stamps in two Panes of 60 each with 10 horizontal rows of 6 stamps. The first date of issue for these is believed to be 27 January 1913 (in Sydney). They were used as the 'letter rate' to foreign countries in 1913. There were two printings totalling 2,640,000 stamps.
This 1st WATERMARK marsupial carries very nice centering (a tad low and right) and perforations. It will make a lovely addition to that MINT 1st Watermark collection. As you can see, its just pretty with a hint of OFFSET.
