An extraordinary early-career match-worn Brazil National Team jersey attributed to Pelé and dating to his historic 1958 season — the year the 17-year-old superstar led Brazil to its first FIFA World Cup championship.
Offered here is a remarkable 1958 Brazil National Team #10 jersey worn by Pelé, accompanied by a MEARS Letter grading the jersey AUTHENTIC and original provenance tracing the shirt to former Brazilian footballer Afonso Celso Garcia Reis (“Afonsinho”).
The yellow short-sleeved cotton jersey features Brazil's early embroidered CBD crest, open green collar, green ribbed sleeve ends and Pelé's legendary #10 individually applied in green to the reverse. The inner collar retains its vintage Ceppo / Superball – Rio manufacturer's labeling.
The front has been autographed: “Edson = Pelé”
MEARS examined the jersey on August 13, 2026 and issued Certification #324431.
Their evaluation identifies:
Player: Pelé
Year: 1958
Team: Brazil National Team
Use: Worn During Match Play
Manufacturer: Ceppo
Material: Cotton
Wear: Moderate
CBD Patch: Present
Autographed: Yes
Final Grade: AUTHENTIC
The jersey displays genuine period wear, including fabric wear, aging, staining and fraying/irregularities to the individually applied reverse numbers.
Also included is signed provenance from Maria Auxiliadora Garcia Reis Castro Decaro, sister of former Brazilian footballer Afonso Celso Garcia Reis (“Afonsinho”).
Her signed 2019 declaration states that the jersey came from her brother's collection, was worn by Edson Arantes do Nascimento – Pelé – while playing for Brazil, and was worn and autographed by Pelé in 1958, having been obtained directly from the player.
Supporting identification/documentation accompanies the provenance.
The jersey is the yellow Brazil style associated with this period and bears the correct early CBD crest, Ceppo/Superball manufacturing and vintage #10 configuration.
The seller is presently pursuing additional photographic research and professional photo-matching opinions in an effort to determine whether the jersey can be connected to a specific 1958 Brazil match.
Because Brazil wore blue shirts against Sweden in the 1958 World Cup Final, research into potential World Cup use of this yellow jersey is focused on Pelé's earlier tournament appearances, including Brazil's matches against the Soviet Union, Wales and France.
Of particular historical significance:
• Brazil vs. Wales – June 19, 1958: Pelé scored the only goal of the match — his first World Cup goal.
• Brazil vs. France – June 24, 1958: Pelé scored a second-half hat trick in Brazil's 5–2 semifinal victory.
MEARS Certification #324431 is included, along with the accompanying provenance documentation shown in the photographs.
Serious inquiries are welcome.
