NICE PERFORATIONS, CENTERING AND COLOUR FOR THIS 2nd WATERMARK 6d BLUE KANGAROO: MINT HINGED (SOME LIGHT GUM DISTURBANCE) - FULL ORIGINAL GUM QUITE BEAUTIFUL - 2025 CV$400 (2022 SG:£225)
The 2nd Watermark 6d Ultramarine Kangaroo was printed by J.B. COOKE in one single printing in February/March 1915. The earliest date of use for this marsupial is April 1915. They were printed off two Plates (Plate 1 - UPPER and Plate 2 - LOWER) each with 120-stamps-on, in two Panes of 60 each with 10 Rows of 6 stamps. They were the 'intrastate parcel rate' of the time. Only 4,800,000 2nd Watermark 6d Blue Kangaroos were printed. The 2nd Watermark Kangaroos are much scarcer than their 1st and 3rd counterparts. There were only 4.8m of these printed as opposed to 10.08m 1st Watermark marsupials and 52.8m 3rd Watermark Kangas (both Die II and Die IIB combined). THE AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH SPECIALISTS' CATALOGUE "KANGAROOS" (ACSC 2025) lists this at $400. However as you can see, there is some minor gum disturbance at the back. HAPPY to take genuine offers on this scarce marsupial in MLH.
