A handsome complete Folio Society edition of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. The Folio Society first published this edition in 1977; these volumes are the later binding issue and are identified as the eighth printing, 2002.
The books are beautifully produced in full vegetable parchment, blocked with designs by Francis Mosley. They feature illustrations by Ingahild Grathmer, drawn by Eric Fraser, together with detailed Middle-earth map endpapers.
Printed at The Bath Press, Bath on St Paul's Wove paper and housed together in the original Folio Society slipcase.
The books are in Very Good condition and present extremely well overall.
The decorated bindings remain bright and attractive, the gilt decoration is strong, and the pages and illustrated interiors are generally exceptionally clean. The bindings appear sound and the map endpapers remain very attractive.
There is otherwise only light age-related handling and edge wear to the books.
The original slipcase is present and structurally sound, with some fading/sunning and light shelf and handling wear.
Overall, a particularly attractive complete Folio Society Tolkien set, with the page-edge ink mark reflected in the asking price.
