VINTAGE ERICSSON N2121Z20 INDUSTRIAL MAGNETO MINING BAKELITE TELEPHONE - 1949.
On offer is a scarce and historically fascinating piece of industrial telecommunications heritage, a vintage Ericsson N2121Z20 Magneto Telephone dating back to circa 1949 which were originally engineered for surface office and industrial use in collieries and the petroleum industry under strict safety specifications. The metal identification plate on the back is clear and legible, showcasing the historical certification details. These details read ‘Ministry of Fuel & Power Certificate No. T/TEL/82 (dated 31st March 1949)’.
It is made from a high-quality black Bakelite housing which is in excellent condition with no visible cracks, chips or damage. These models feature heavy-duty internal generators and a unique utilitarian build that appeals immensely to collectors of industrial history. They were built to withstand the harsh conditions of mining environments and finding one with the original data plate intact and with the Bakelite in such good condition is quite uncommon.
It features the original factory "blind" cover in place of a dial, confirming its specialised configuration for manual magneto exchange operation. The original hand-crank magneto turning handle moves smoothly.
The internal components are mounted on the metal base plate which has non-slip rubber feet and is attached by captive screws to the case so that it can be removed to expose the parts for maintenance. The components include anti-side-tone induction coil, ringer, 'alnico' generator and capacitors. All of these components are original and are untouched.
The components including the original handset, cradle, and correctly fitted side-mounted hand-crank generator handle are remarkably well-preserved for an industrial piece of this age.
