An original matching pair of antique French porcelain vases produced by Edmé Samson & Cie, Paris, circa 1860. Executed in the celebrated Sèvres style, each vase features a rich Bleu Céleste ground adorned with shaped central reserves framed by elaborate hand-applied Rococo gilding. Inside the reserves are superbly hand-painted polychrome scenes depicting winged putti among clouds, inspired by the works of François Boucher.

Both vases bear the characteristic underglaze cobalt-blue Sèvres-style interlaced L's pseudomark incorporating Samson's distinctive letter S at the centre.

The celebrated Bleu Céleste ground was among the most technically demanding colours developed by the Sèvres manufactory during the eighteenth century, requiring multiple firings and exceptionally careful control of the kiln atmosphere.

Its successful imitation became one of Samson's most admired achievements.

Founded in 1845, the Paris-based manufactory Edmé Samson & Cie went down in history as one of the greatest creators of highly artistic reproductions of European porcelain. Its craftsmen achieved a remarkable level of mastery in recreating antique painting techniques, elaborate gilding and the distinctive glazes that made eighteenth-century Sèvres porcelain so celebrated. Today, Samson porcelains are highly desirable collectors' pieces, appreciated worldwide for their exceptional craftsmanship, historical significance and artistic quality.

Surviving as a true matching pair, the vases retain their original balance of decoration, colour and gilding, a feature considerably less common than single surviving examples. Combining superb hand-painted decoration, elaborate gilding and the celebrated Bleu Céleste ground, they represent outstanding examples of the refined craftsmanship for which Samson became internationally renowned.
