A remarkable example of Wedgwood Lustre, designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones circa 1915, in the rare and imaginative slightly worn pattern Z4831. The exterior shimmers with green lustre enhanced by multicolored stainings, producing an iridescent surface with a distinctive violet hue. Around the perimeter, finely gilded oriental-style animal motifs. Inside, the base features a dramatic coiling dragon with a human face, surrounded by stylized blue clouds drifting along the sides. Daisy Makeig-Jones helped boost Wedgwood’s struggling profits, but her original designs were much more than just “pretty patterns”. She prided herself on creating stories and hidden worlds around fantastical themes, using rich jewel-like colors and imaginative detail — qualities that have made her work highly sought-after among collectors.
