Set of four original mid‑century Mexican folk art paintings by Luis Tejada (c. 1965–1975). Artwork includes Riders , Burrows & Villagers - Mid-Century artwork.

Classic desert scenes featuring a horse & rider, two burros, villagers, and cacti. Each piece is framed in its original vintage painted wood frame with colored mats — the iconic Tejada look.

Luis Tejada was a mid‑20th‑century Mexican folk artist, active mainly from the 1950s through the 1970s. His work was part of the booming Mexican artisan and tourist‑market art scene, where small, colorful paintings were sold in border towns, markets, and craft shops.

Here’s the core of what defines him:

• Folk‑art painter — not academic, not fine‑art gallery style

• Themes: rural life, desert landscapes, villagers, burros, horses, cacti

• Style: flat color fields, simple silhouettes, warm earth tones

• Format: small paintings, often framed in painted wood with colored mats

Condition of the Artwork:

Surfaces are clean with no apparent foxing.

Frames show light vintage wear appropriate for age.

There are a few smudges on the interior side of the glass on two pieces — I cannot be sure but believe that these are on the glass only and not on the artwork. It can likely be cleaned if desired. Overall, a well‑preserved, matching set ready to hang. 2 pictures are missing the paper backing on the frame. See all photos and message with any questions!

Sizes:

• Two pieces approx. 8” × 7.5”

• Two pieces approx. 10” × 8.5”

A great set for collectors of Mexican folk art, Southwestern décor, or mid‑century wall groupings.
