The Place No One Knew: Glen Canyon on the Colorado is Eliot Porter’s influential photographic record of the spectacular landscape that was largely submerged following construction of Glen Canyon Dam. Porter’s rich color photographs capture the canyon’s sandstone walls, waterways, vegetation, and secluded side canyons before the creation of Lake Powell.
Edited and designed by noted conservationist David Brower, this 1968 abridged Sierra Club–Ballantine edition combines Porter’s photographs with selections from John Wesley Powell, August Frugé, Clarence Dutton, and other writers. A significant work in the history of American landscape photography and the modern conservation movement. Softcover, 160 pages, illustrated throughout in color.
