1950's Peter Paul Mounds 10c Candy box

 

I found a number of old candy boxes in a “Mom & Pop” variety store that had been closed for many years.  Among the items were a number of different candy boxes.

made by Peter Paul Inc, Naugatuck, Conn. – Oakland, Calif – Dallas, Texas

 

I am not sure of the age but there is no zip code in the address on the box, which dates this prior to 1962 and definitely looks older (note: Zip Codes began in 1963).  The cover is in fair condition but the two corners on the right are split.  There is definitely shelf wear from being on a shelf for around 50 years. 

 

I believe the bottom of the box was put in the cover and used as a display in that manner which accounts for the wear around all of the edges.  The bottom section however is in really nice condition since the top protected it.  The bottom section colors are bright with minimal wear.  (Please see the photos).  The inside of the bottom reads "Big Double Bar 10c Mounds".  The outside on a number of places reads "Made by the Makers of Almond Joy"

 

This is a nice "candy memorabilia" collector's item.
