The card can be configured for two different 21-pin RGB cable standards:

EU SCART Position

Use this setting with standard European-wired RGB SCART cables.

Japanese JP21 Position

Use this setting with Japanese-wired RGB21/JP21 cables.

EU SCART and Japanese JP21 connectors look physically identical, but their internal pinouts are different and they are not interchangeable.

Both selector switches must be placed in the same correct position for the cable being used. Turn off the monitor and connected equipment before changing the switches.

If you are using an EU SCART cable, set both switches to EU SCART. If you are using a Japanese JP21 cable, set both switches to JP21.

The switches configure the card for the appropriate pinout, allowing the same 21-pin socket to support either cable standard.

The input automatically detects the active signal — no manual switch needed. However, if both inputs are connected, VGA takes priority.

*The VGA input operates at 15kHz, providing a convenient connection option — it’s not an upscaler or high-resolution output.

BKM-129X SCART & VGA – FAQ

Q: Is this an upscaler or scaler?

A: No. The BKM-129X does not scale or convert resolutions. It is a direct RGB passthrough input card.

⸻

Q: What does the VGA port do?

A: The VGA port is an RGB input option. It does not add new resolutions. The source device must already output a resolution supported by the monitor.

⸻

Q: Does VGA automatically mean 480p / 720p / 1080i?

A: No, the VGA input operates at 15kHz, providing a convenient connection option — it’s not an up-scaler or high-resolution output.

⸻

Q: Will this work on PVM-14L5 / PVM-20L5 / BVM monitors?

A: Yes. As long as the source outputs a resolution the monitor supports (e.g. 15kHz RGB, 480p, 720p, 1080i), it will display correctly.

The card does not unlock unsupported resolutions.

⸻

Q: Is the VGA input 15kHz or 31kHz?

A: 15kHz, the VGA input is intended for convenience.

⸻

Q: What happens if I connect a 31kHz-only VGA source to a 15kHz signal path?

A: The monitor will not sync. You may get:

• no picture

• rolling image

• unstable sync

The signal frequency must match what the monitor supports.

⸻

Q: What is HV / CS sync?

A:

• HV (H-Sync / V-Sync) = separate sync signals (typical VGA / PC)

• CS (Composite Sync) = combined sync signal (typical SCART / retro consoles)

You must select the sync type that matches your source.

⸻

Q: Does this improve image quality?

A: It provides direct RGB input, which is the best analog signal type for PVM/BVM monitors.

Image quality depends on the source and cables used.

⸻

Q: Is audio carried through SCART or VGA?

A: Video only. Audio must be connected separately using the provided 3.5mm / RCA audio input.

⸻

Q: Is this plug and play?

A: Yes. Install the card, connect your cables, select the input slot on the monitor, and you’re ready to go.
