Nice piece of pre-prohibition ephemera depicting the Marion Brewing Brewery Marion, Marion County, Ohio. The brewery opened in the 1880's and survived until Prohibition. In 1908 Marion County went Dry forcing the brewery to sell it's products outside the County especially to Mansfield and Columbus. It closed in 1919 and eventually became the Betty Zane Popcorn Company from 1938-1970's.
It's notable products were Walhalla Export, Cordial Brew, Banquet Brew and Amber Ale. The brewery was located at 640/646nBellefontaine Avenue along the Pennsylvania Railroad tracks,
The card is of interest because of the New York Times article on the back of the card. One notable investor in the brewery was future President Warren G Harding. The article quotes Harding as saying he is that "he is not a Prohibitionist and never pretended to be". He does claim to be a "Temperance Man"!! Additionally, he he did not see Prohibition as a "great moral question". Harding was President from 1921-1923
