The Blackheath Bronze Age Burial Site near Todmorden, Calderdale, stands as one of the most significant prehistoric locations in West Yorkshire. Excavated in 1898, it offers a compelling glimpse into ancient burial customs, though many of its discoveries have since been lost or misplaced. Often referred to as Blackheath Barrow, the site is positioned at an elevation of 925 feet near Cross Stone. It features a distinctive ring cairn, surrounded by a rubble bank with larger stones strategically placed at intervals. The excavation uncovered multiple urns, two of which contained cremated remains, providing insight into Bronze Age funerary practices. Alongside these, archaeologists discovered faience, jet, amber, and bone beads, as well as a tanged bronze knife, reflecting the craftsmanship and ritual significance of the time.
