Rabbi Menachem Mendel Shershevsky (1847–1929) was born in Slonim and served as the rabbi and Av Beit Din of Kossow for over forty-three years. He succeeded his father-in-law, Rabbi Shmuel Slonimsky, in the rabbinate around 1882. Following the passing of his first wife and his daughter, he immigrated to Jerusalem in 1927. In Jerusalem, he engaged in public affairs and dedicated his time to Torah study.  Rabbi Shershevsky passed away on Cheshvan 2, 5689  and was buried according to his instructions wrapped in his tzitzit, in which he had studied the entire Shas twenty-six times, as the Rav Kook mentioned in his eulogy. A large crowd participated in his funeral. He was also eulogized by Rabbi Shmuel Rapoport, Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, Rabbi Yitzchak Yaakov Yellin, and Rabbi Yitzchak Yaakov Wechtfogel. He was buried on the Mount of Olives, near the grave of Rabbi Shlomo Elyashiv.
